According to a report by BNT News on February 12th, the Bulgarian Parliament has passed a proposal to comprehensively ban e-cigarettes and similar products in the first reading with 197 votes in favor.
Parliament has reached a consensus on the necessity of the ban, while also emphasizing the need to refine the legal text between the first and second readings to protect the interests of all stakeholders affected.
Chairman of the Health Committee Kostadin Angelov pointed out that only strict measures can solve the problem.
"We have all failed in enforcing this ban, with both the government and various institutions unable to effectively implement it."
In addition, the parliament unanimously passed a resolution calling on the Ministry of Interior to monitor 24 hours a day the advertising, promotion, and sale of e-cigarettes, gas, and other products containing drugs or similar substances on the internet.
