JTI Malaysia Focusing on Ploom Amid E-cigarette Regulation Concerns.
JTI Malaysia delays e-cigarette launch due to regulations, focusing on Ploom market performance and underage market regulation enforcement.

Key points:

RJ Reynolds Malaysia will temporarily suspend the launch of e-cigarette products in the local market until regulatory measures are improved.

JTI Malaysia will focus on the market performance of the heated tobacco product "Ploom" and is not in a rush to expand into the e-cigarette sector.

JTI emphasizes regulatory compliance to ensure market order in the underage market.

According to Theedgemalaysia's report on February 26th, Japan Tobacco International Malaysia (JTI Malaysia) stated that they do not plan to introduce e-cigarettes or vaping products locally until the regulations regarding them are perfected.

Logic" is the current e-cigarette product of JTI Malaysia.

Juliana Mohd Yahaya, managing director of JTI Malaysia, expressed after announcing the results of the 2024 illegal cigarette research commissioned by the Malaysia Tobacco Manufacturers' Alliance.

We are not in a rush to enter the e-cigarette market because we launched the heated tobacco product Ploom in Malaysia in January this year and want to invest more effort in that product.

She pointed out that the e-cigarette market in Malaysia is currently not fully regulated, and JTI Malaysia does not want their products to attract minors.

Once all regulations are in place and the industry is under control, we will consider launching e-cigarette products in Malaysia.

The Public Health Tobacco and Nicotine Control Act of 2024 officially came into effect on October 1, 2024. The legislation aims to regulate tobacco and nicotine products, including e-cigarettes. The law will be implemented in phases, with the first phase requiring tobacco products to be registered by April and beginning to prohibit retailers from displaying tobacco and e-cigarette products.

If there are regulations without enforcement, our e-cigarette products may end up in the hands of those under 18, which is a problem that cannot be ignored.

Justine mentioned that Ploom has received a positive response among local users, "performing beyond expectations, and heating tobacco products is not a new thing, which also offers consumers another choice.

According to reports, Philip Morris International (PMI) Malaysia was the first to launch its heated tobacco product (HTP) IQOS in 2018.
