Key Points

JT launched Nordic Spirit Rich Melon Medium in Japan on November 2, 2026, expanding the brand's announced domestic portfolio from seven to eight SKUs.

The new melon variant and three existing mint products each contain a standard 14 pouches per can and retail for ¥500 including tax, with Medium, Strong and X-Strong intensity designations.

Sweet Mint Medium, Sweet Mint Strong and Cool Mint X-Strong launched through the CLUB JT online store on October 6 and entered selected physical tobacco shops on November 2.

Nordic Spirit entered Japan in March 2026. JT added two variants in July, three mint products in October and another flavor in November.

JT classifies Nordic Spirit as a modern oral tobacco product made with plant-derived fiber and tobacco-derived nicotine, rather than traditional oral tobacco based on tobacco leaf.

According to an October 19, 2026, announcement by Japan Tobacco Inc. (JT), the company launched Nordic Spirit Rich Melon Medium through selected Japanese tobacco retailers on November 2, while extending physical retail distribution for three existing variants: Sweet Mint Medium, Sweet Mint Strong and Cool Mint X-Strong.

The Rich Melon Medium launch brings Nordic Spirit's Japanese lineup to eight SKUs, marking another portfolio expansion since JT introduced the brand to the domestic market in March 2026.

Nordic Spirit Portfolio Reaches Eight SKUs With ¥500 Melon Launch

Nordic Spirit Rich Melon Medium features a melon flavor profile and carries a Medium intensity designation.

According to JT, the Swedish-made product contains a standard 14 pouches per can and is priced at ¥500 including tax.

It became available through selected tobacco retailers across Japan on November 2.

JT uses Medium, Strong and X-Strong designations to indicate levels of oral sensation rather than to disclose specific nicotine quantities.

The October 19 announcement does not specify the new product's nicotine content in milligrams per pouch, initial shipment volume or expected sales.

Rich Melon Medium is the only newly introduced SKU in the November 2 retail rollout.

Three Existing Mint Variants Expand From CLUB JT Into Tobacco Shops

Three existing Nordic Spirit mint products also entered selected tobacco retail outlets on November 2: Sweet Mint Medium, Sweet Mint Strong and Cool Mint X-Strong.

All three had already launched through the CLUB JT online store on October 6.

The November announcement therefore concerns the addition of physical retail channels for these products, rather than the introduction of three new SKUs.

JT identified the additional channels as selected tobacco shops across Japan.

The announcement did not state that all four products would be available through nationwide 7-Eleven, Lawson or NewDays convenience store networks.

The company also did not disclose the number of participating tobacco retailers, distributor partners or sales targets.

The latest expansion adds another physical retail format to the brand's existing online and convenience store distribution.

JT Has Expanded Nordic Spirit From Two to Eight Japanese SKUs Since March

JT introduced Nordic Spirit in Japan on March 3, 2026, initially offering Cola Fizz Medium through the CLUB JT online store. Berry Mix Medium followed in mid-March.

In April, Cola Fizz Medium began entering 7-Eleven, Lawson and NewDays convenience stores, with Berry Mix Medium subsequently expanding into additional physical retail channels.

On July 21, JT launched Tropical Mix Medium and Cool Mint Strong, increasing the portfolio to four products.

The company announced three more mint variants on September 1: Sweet Mint Medium, Sweet Mint Strong and Cool Mint X-Strong. They launched through CLUB JT on October 6, bringing Nordic Spirit's Japanese lineup to seven SKUs.

JT also began expanding convenience store distribution for Tropical Mix Medium and Cool Mint Strong during October.

Rich Melon Medium became the eighth SKU on November 2, accompanied by tobacco shop distribution for the three existing mint variants.

JT has introduced Nordic Spirit products in stages, with selected variants expanding into additional physical retail channels after their initial launches.

The eight-SKU count represents the company's announced Japanese portfolio, not the number of products available at every retail location.

Nordic Spirit Uses a Plant-Fiber Base and Tobacco-Derived Nicotine

JT classifies Nordic Spirit as a modern oral tobacco product.

Under the company's product definitions, modern oral products use white pouches based on plant-derived fibers rather than tobacco leaf. JT has also described Nordic Spirit products offered in Japan as containing tobacco-derived nicotine.

This formulation differs from traditional oral tobacco, or snus, in which tobacco leaf is used as a base material.

Nordic Spirit products sold in Japan are manufactured in Sweden. The pouches are designed for placement in the mouth and are offered in different oral sensation categories, including Medium, Strong and X-Strong.

JT's latest announcement does not disclose exact nicotine content in milligrams per pouch.

The intensity designations should not be treated as standardized nicotine quantities or used to compare nicotine delivery directly with competing brands.

Industry Perspective | Portfolio Expansion Accompanies Broader Physical Retail Distribution

Since entering Japan in March 2026, JT has expanded Nordic Spirit from two to eight announced products while adding distribution through convenience stores and selected tobacco shops.

The November development combines one new melon SKU with the physical retail expansion of three mint products previously sold online.

At ¥500 for 14 pouches, Nordic Spirit Rich Melon Medium is priced above BAT Japan's recently launched VELO Mango Ice Medium, which retails for ¥380 with 15 pouches per can.

The difference is ¥120 per can. Based on the published prices and pack sizes, the respective average prices are approximately ¥35.71 per Nordic Spirit pouch and ¥25.33 per VELO pouch.

However, the products differ in formulation, category and intensity classifications. The nominal price difference does not establish comparable nicotine delivery, consumer usage costs or competitive performance.

JT has not disclosed Japanese sales volumes, market share or channel revenue for Nordic Spirit.

The latest announcement provides evidence of continued portfolio expansion and additional physical retail distribution, but not of the brand's sales performance or market position.

JAMA Study: U.S. Vape Directories Fail to Sustainably Curb Unlisted Sales as Product Shifts May Redistribute Brand Share 2Firsts Recommended
A study by CDC Foundation researchers found no sustained decline in e-cigarette sales across Alabama, Oklahoma and Louisiana, the first three U.S. states to implement e-cigarette directory laws. Louisiana initially saw a significant sales decline, followed by a rebound and a persistent reduction in product availability. Sales also shifted from nontobacco-flavored disposables toward prefilled cartridges, with Vuse Alto driving much of the increase in menthol cartridges. By April 2025, unlisted products still accounted for more than half of e-cigarette nicotine sales in all three states.

South Korea Constitutional Court Upholds Volume-Based E-Liquid Tax, With Challenged Rates at KRW 370 and KRW 628 per Milliliter
South Korea's Constitutional Court has upheld fixed taxes on nicotine-containing e-cigarette liquids based on solution volume, ruling that challenged provisions imposing KRW 370 per milliliter in individual consumption tax and KRW 628 per milliliter in tobacco consumption tax do not violate the Constitution. The cases stemmed from historical disputes involving importers that reported nicotine as being extracted from tobacco stems rather than leaves. South Korea has since broadened its tobacco definition to include synthetic nicotine, while current tax laws provide reduced rates for certain products not derived from tobacco.
