November 3, 2026

British American Tobacco (BAT)'s VELO brand launched the VELO WRKS nicotine pouch range in Sweden on November 2, 2026, according to VELO's Swedish website and product listings from retailers Haypp and Snusbolaget.

The initial release, designated Drop 1, comprises three two-flavour variants packaged in a Dual Can format that separates two varieties of nicotine pouches into individual compartments within a single container.

According to VELO, Drop 1 is a limited release of 75,000 cans, available until February 2027 or while stocks last. Each can contains 20 pouches, with 8mg of nicotine per pouch, and is listed at SEK 52.99.

Dual Can Format Combines Six Flavours Across Three Variants

The VELO WRKS Dual Can divides a single container into two compartments, each holding 10 nicotine pouches of a different flavour.

According to VELO, an internal membrane separates the compartments to keep the flavours distinct. The design also removes the conventional compartment used to store spent pouches, allocating that space to the two flavour compartments instead.

Drop 1 comprises three combinations, each pairing a relatively familiar flavour with a more unconventional alternative.

ProductCompartment OneCompartment Two
Raspberry Lime / Strawberry BasilRaspberry and limeStrawberry and basil
Tropical Orange / Lemongrass GingerTropical orange and guavaLemongrass and ginger
Cardamom Bread / Red MisoCardamom and vanillaRed miso

For Tropical Orange / Lemongrass Ginger, VELO's official flavour description includes guava alongside tropical orange, while the second compartment combines lemongrass with ginger notes.

Cardamom Bread / Red Miso pairs cardamom and vanilla with a red miso flavour described by the brand as having umami characteristics and a lightly salty finish.

Rather than blending the two flavour profiles within individual pouches, VELO WRKS stores them separately within the same can. The total pack size remains 20 pouches.

Each Pouch Contains 8mg of Nicotine, With a Retail Price of SEK 52.99 Per Can

According to product specifications listed by Haypp and Snusbolaget, all three initial VELO WRKS variants share the same nicotine content, pouch format and pack size.

Retailer ingredient descriptions list plant fibres, flavourings, pH regulators and humectants among the product components.

For comparison, Snusbolaget lists the 8mg VELO Blueberry Ice at SEK 45.99 per can, while VELO Shift Mango Yuzu 8mg is priced at SEK 52.99, matching WRKS.

The WRKS retail price is therefore higher than some standard VELO products but equal to certain other variants. The available listings do not establish a consistent price premium across the full VELO portfolio.

Limited to 75,000 Cans, WRKS Secured EU Trademark Registration Before Launch

VELO's Swedish website describes WRKS as an innovation platform and sister brand to VELO, designed to develop and test new product ideas with consumers.

Products are introduced through successive releases called Drops. The first, Drop 1, is limited to 75,000 cans and is distributed through selected retailers until February 2027 or while stocks last.

VELO has not announced a fixed number of future Drops, stating that subsequent releases will depend on feedback and insights gathered from earlier concepts.

In addition to the three standard Dual Can products launched on November 2, Haypp and Snusbolaget list three corresponding VELO WRKS Box variants with a scheduled launch date of November 9, 2026.

As of November 3, the Box products were listed as not yet available, with a retail price of SEK 52.99 per can. Retailer descriptions say they include a VELO WRKS box but do not specify how the packaging differs from the standard version. The listed nicotine content, pouch format and pack quantity remain unchanged.

Trademark records also show that British American Tobacco (Brands) Limited filed an EU trademark application for VELO WRKS on March 18, 2026, under application number 019332760. The trademark was registered on July 7.

The registration falls under Nice Classification Class 34 and covers a range of products, including tobacco-free oral nicotine pouches, electronic cigarettes and e-liquids, heated tobacco products and conventional tobacco goods.

The broader trademark classification does not establish plans to expand VELO WRKS into e-cigarettes or heated tobacco. The confirmed commercial launch currently concerns nicotine pouches.

Industry Perspective | Dual-Compartment Packaging and Consumer Feedback Form Part of a Staged Product Test

The initial VELO WRKS release retains the slim pouch format and 8mg nicotine strength, with its main product changes centred on dual-compartment packaging, flavour combinations and design.

Unlike standard nicotine pouch launches, WRKS uses a separate brand identity, limited quantities and a staged-release model. VELO explicitly identifies the range as a platform for developing and testing new product concepts.

The VELO website also includes a dedicated consumer feedback survey covering perceptions of the Dual Can concept, ratings of the two-flavour experience, preferences for flavour combinations and packaging design, and potential product improvements.

The launch combines a new packaging configuration, dual-flavour variants and consumer feedback within a limited commercial release. VELO has not yet disclosed the specifications or quantities of subsequent Drops.

Three R.J. Reynolds companies are seeking to intervene in a lawsuit filed by Altria subsidiaries Helix Innovations and NJOY challenging the FDA's 2021 PMTA final rule. The companies dispute how the agency uses Acceptance and Filing reviews and completeness determinations to establish when the Tobacco Control Act's 180-day decision period begins. Reynolds has also linked prolonged PMTA reviews to competition from unauthorized vaping products. The FDA, meanwhile, has been accelerating reviews and reducing its backlog.

India Duty-Free Nicotine Pouch Sales Face Regulatory Test as ZYN, FOX Classification Remains Open
The Bombay High Court has ruled that airport duty-free shops are not exempt from India's domestic regulatory laws merely because they operate beyond the customs barrier, leaving in place a sales halt covering ZYN and FOX nicotine pouches at Mumbai's international airport. The court, however, did not determine that the products necessarily qualify as "drugs" under India's Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The retailers have four weeks to submit product information to the appropriate authorities, including CDSCO, which must complete its review within 30 days of receiving the submissions.
