Thailand Accelerates Crackdown on Illegal E-Cigarette Use and Trade
Thai authorities crack down on illegal e-cigarette trade, leading to 666 cases in 7 days with 690 arrests.

Prachuap Wongsuk, deputy chief of the Royal Thai Police, said a weeklong crackdown on e-cigarettes from February 26th to March 4th, 2025, led to multiple seizures, Dailynews reported.

 

In the past 7 days, the police have cracked a total of 666 cases related to e-cigarettes, arrested 690 suspects, and seized approximately 450,000 items related to e-cigarettes, with a total value of 41.91 million Thai baht (1.24 million US dollars).

 

Two major cases involved three suspects, with approximately 410,000 items seized worth 34.2 million baht ($1.02 million); 645 minor cases resulted in the control of 669 suspects, with approximately 40,000 items seized worth 7.21 million baht ($210,000).

 

There were also seven cases near schools that led to the arrest of six suspects, with 1,359 items seized, worth 300,000 baht ($9,000); and 12 cases around tourist spots resulted in the control of 12 suspects, with 752 items seized worth 190,000 baht ($5,700).

 

On February 27th, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Thai Prime Minister, instructed cabinet departments to curb the harm of e-cigarettes to children and teenagers, and requested an evaluation of the effectiveness within 30 days in order to report on the long-term plans and progress of the measures.
