Colombia Penalizes E-Cigarette Company for Endangering Underage Consumers

Colombia's Superintendence of Industry and Commerce penalized e-cigarette company Inversiones Glu Cloud for not warning about potential harm to minors.

According to a report by Elpais on December 19th, the Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio (SIC), the Colombian authority responsible for industry and commerce, has imposed a penalty on a well-known e-cigarette company for failing to include precautionary information about the potential harm to minors on its packaging.

The company found guilty of the offense is Inversiones Glu Cloud S.A.S. The Colombian Superintendency of Industry and Commerce (SIC) has imposed a fine of over 1 billion Colombian pesos (approximately 1.7 million yuan) and has clarified the reasons behind the punishment targeting children, adolescents, and young people.

According to SIC, this company has been penalized for not disclosing the presence of certain harmful ingredients in their product packaging, containers, and advertisements, as well as failing to inform consumers about the need to consult relevant conditions and restrictions prior to use. This information has been confirmed by SIC in their official documentation.

The Colombian Chamber of Commerce has issued a warning regarding the dangers of e-cigarettes that do not disclose potential health risks to children and teenagers.

The Standards Institution of China (SIC) emphasizes that young people, as consumers, have the right to use safe and high-quality products. They should be provided with clear and accurate information to protect them from false advertising and have the freedom to make their own choices.

In Resolution No. 75799, released in 2023, the SIC (Superintendence of Industry and Commerce) has mandated that Inversiones Glu Cloud S.A.S. must adequately address the rights of affected consumers.
