Crackdown on Illegal Tobacco and E-Cigarette Products in Tasmania
Tasmania cracks down on illegal tobacco and e-cigarette products worth $1.5 million, intensifying enforcement against illicit sales.

According to Miragenews on April 1st, the Department of Health in Tasmania, Australia recently conducted a joint operation and seized approximately $1.5 million worth of illegal tobacco and e-cigarette products.

 

Tasmania Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing Roger Jaensch has stated that the government is actively enforcing relevant legislation to regulate the legal sale and supply of tobacco and e-cigarette products, while also disrupting the source of illegal tobacco products. The Tasmania government has also employed 6-7 full-time enforcement officers to crack down on illegal tobacco.

 

The total value of this seizure is estimated to be $1.5 million AUD, including over 23,000 packets of cigarettes, nearly 5,000 e-cigarettes, and 112 kilograms of loose tobacco.

 

All seized illegal products will be destroyed and reported to the Australian Border Force and Therapeutic Goods Administration.
