2Firsts, reporting from Shenzhen - A teenager in Carmarthenshire, Wales attempted to purchase an e-cigarette as part of a Trading Standards investigation, and was successful in purchasing one at 8 different locations, Nation.Cymru reported.

The relevant businesses have received formal written warnings.

This teenager, under the covert supervision of officials from the Trade Standards Bureau, attempted to purchase e-cigarettes at 66 establishments from October 2024 to January 2025, with the majority of vendors adhering to the law.

In an online test, conducted under supervision, a 13-year-old teenager attempted to purchase e-cigarettes from 12 websites in Camden County. All websites rejected the transaction, either during the ordering process or later on by canceling the order due to inability to verify the buyer's age.

The investigation also focused on illegal e-cigarettes containing high levels of nicotine, with two establishments being found to have suspected illegal e-cigarettes.

The UK National Health Service (NHS) said that e-cigarettes were not entirely risk-free and highly addictive. They did not recommend their use for children or people who have never smoked before.

Several councillors have pointed out that discarded e-cigarettes are becoming an increasingly serious waste issue.

It is reported that Wales will implement controls on the supply of disposable e-cigarettes in June.
