According to a report by local media outlet Prensa-latina, marijuana legalization has garnered significant support in the state of Florida, USA. Thousands of supporters have signed a petition on this year's ballot in Florida, requesting the addition of a constitutional amendment proposal pertaining to the legalization of marijuana.
Furthermore, according to local reports, Indiana is expected to introduce a bill to legalize marijuana. Similarly, Republicans in Wisconsin are also planning to propose a suggestion in the near future to legalize medical marijuana in the state, with the original plan being to vote on it at a certain point in the agenda.
In 2022, several states have legalized recreational marijuana, but in 2023, only Ohio passed a citizen-initiated law in November, allowing residents over the age of 21 to use up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana and up to 15 grams of marijuana extracts. Consequently, Ohio became the 24th state in the union to legalize recreational marijuana.
In addition, Kentucky's legislature has passed the legalization of medical marijuana this year; however, patients will have to wait until 2025 for the program to be officially implemented.
The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) informed the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) earlier this year about its perspective on marijuana and recommended reclassifying it into Schedule III, indicating a "moderate to low" level of dependency on this substance.
According to a Gallup opinion poll released in November 2022, 70% of the participants expressed their support for the legalization of marijuana in the United States. This support rate has remained steady at 68% over the past three years.
