New Technology to Address e-cigarette Use in Ohio Schools
A new technology is being considered by Ohio's Dayton school district to help address e-cigarette use among students.

Recently, according to a report by WHIO, the Dayton School District in Ohio, United States, is considering the introduction of new technology to help alleviate the problem of students using e-cigarettes. The district has proposed a new plan to monitor the use of e-cigarettes in schools. This plan will utilize smart sensor products to catch students who are secretly vaping in bathrooms, changing rooms, and stairwells.

When the potential use of e-cigarette liquid is detected, the information will be uploaded to a cloud system that is connected to the entire school building, in order to record the time and location of the issue being identified.

Schools can also connect the system to existing camera systems, as explained by Eric Wiccum, a representative from the intelligent sensing products company, during a recent school board meeting. "This can create a two-minute video clip, documenting which students enter and exit the restroom," he said.

Currently, the intelligent sensing system has not been introduced in the school district, and the district has yet to decide whether to proceed with this project.
