7-11 Convenience Store Accused of Deceptive Tax-Free Sales
A 7-11 convenience store operator in Chiba, Japan is accused of illegally obtaining tax refunds through fake duty-free e-cigarette sales.

According to a report by Japanese media outlet livedoor on December 25th, a convenience store operator in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, has been accused of violating the Consumption Tax Law by engaging in fraudulent duty-free sales of e-cigarettes and subsequently obtaining illegal tax refunds. The Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau has reported the case to the local prosecutor's office.

 

According to informed sources, it has been revealed that the main culprit, Mitsuko Tsubaki, actually sold e-cigarettes to some domestic residents she knew, contrary to her claim of duty-free sales to dozens of foreign tourists. This sudden development undoubtedly presents a new task for the Chiba District Prosecutor's Office, as they will need to conduct a thorough investigation to determine if any illegal activities have taken place. The public in Chiba is now eagerly awaiting further developments and judgments from the prosecutors.

Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis has approved, in its first reading, a bill that would ban the import, export, production, storage, wholesale and retail sale, and use of electronic cigarettes and their components. The bill amends the Law on Tobacco and Tobacco Products, classifying nicotine-containing e-cigarettes as tobacco products while explicitly excluding heated tobacco products. If adopted, the law would take effect on February 1, 2026.
