According to the Tasmanian Department of Health (health.tas.gov.au), consultation opened today for the Public Health Amendment (Prohibited Tobacco and Other Products) Bill 2026 (the Bill).
The notice says the Bill intends to address the trade of illicit tobacco, nicotine pouches and e-cigarettes, which has increased significantly across Tasmania in recent years.
It adds that the Bill proposes changes to the Public Health Act 1997 to further protect the health of Tasmanians by reducing the sale and supply of illicit tobacco, vaping and other products, and will also strengthen existing tobacco control laws.
Feedback is now being sought from the Tasmanian community, particularly from businesses and health advocates. The draft Bill is available, and feedback can be provided to the Department via email by March 6, 2026.
