Belarus President Lukashenko Urges Maintenance of Tobacco Industry Growth
Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko instructs tobacco industry to maintain production and export levels at a development conference.

MIR 24 reported on August 6th that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko instructed to maintain production and export levels of tobacco products as much as possible at a tobacco industry development conference. Lukashenko reminded that in the early 2000s, the industry faced many problems and various measures were taken at that time to start production. In addition, Belarus found ways to mitigate the consequences of sanctions and achieve full self-sufficiency in raw materials. Today, this industry is an important source of revenue for the national budget. Lukashenko places great importance on the tobacco industry.

In 2023, the sum was 25 billion rubles, that was yesterday's news. However, today's trends are causing concern. What are these concerns? Is someone inciting unrest? The reasons may vary, but measures must be taken with the interests of the country and the labor collective in mind, to try to maintain production and export levels as much as possible," Lukashenko said.

Lukashenko discussed the fiscal situation for 2023 and expressed concerns about current trends. He instructed that a specific report be made on these risks and questioned whether someone was intentionally creating a tense situation. He emphasized the need to implement measures to protect the interests of the country and the collective of workers, and to maintain the scale of tobacco production and exports as much as possible, regardless of the reasons.
