According to kreiszeitung.de, Belgium is advancing a plan called the "Smoke-Free New Generation." The proposal, initiated by Health Minister Frank Vandenbroucke, aims to have young people quit smoking by 2028. This plan has received support from the German Cigarette Affairs Committee following a significant increase in tobacco taxes, and the next steps for anti-smoking measures have been successfully implemented in parliament.
Belgium is set to implement stricter tobacco regulations. Starting from April 1, the sale of tobacco products will be prohibited at market stalls and music festivals. Most large supermarkets will no longer sell tobacco products, and grocery stores with a floor area exceeding 400 square meters must remove cigarettes, rolling papers, filters, and tobacco products from their product lines.
At the same time, it is strictly prohibited to sell tobacco products to individuals under the age of 18. Retailers are obligated to request identification and confirm eligibility for purchase from anyone who appears to be under the age of 25.
In addition, tobacco companies are prohibited from conducting any form of advertising in Belgium, and display cases in convenience stores and elsewhere may not showcase cigarettes and e-cigarettes.
