Business Standard Agency Cracks Down on Underage E-Cigarette Sales
The Aberdeenshire Council's Trading Standards is cracking down on retailers selling tobacco or e-cigarette products to under 18s.

According to a report by grampianonline, the Trading Standards of Aberdeenshire Council in the United Kingdom has emphasized that it will not tolerate any businesses illegally selling tobacco or nicotine e-cigarette products to anyone under the age of 18.

Earlier this year, a trial purchase operation was conducted, investigating six stores located in Peterhead, regarding the sale of disposable e-cigarettes and traditional cigarettes.

In a case where the law clearly defines regulations for sales, a shop owner in the city center failed to check the buyer's age, despite them being only 16 years old. As a result, this retailer has been reported to the local inspector.

The BSI is cracking down on retailers who illegally sell tobacco or nicotine e-cigarette products to consumers under the age of 18. A retailer in Peterhead has been fined £400 by a court for selling an e-cigarette to an underage volunteer.

Although this was the only mistake in a specific compliance check, the Business Standards Bureau maintains that concerns over the impact of e-cigarettes on the health of young people are growing, particularly for those willing to sell age-restricted products to teenagers.

Gordon Buchanan, Protection Services Manager at Aberdeenshire Council, has stated that they will not tolerate the supply of e-cigarette products to minors. The fines and criminal convictions for such illegal activities reaffirm their determination to crack down on these offenses. Buchanan further emphasized that prompt actions will be taken upon discovering any form of unlawful behavior in this regard.
