Connecticut Lawmakers Advocate Ban on Flavored E-Cigarettes
Connecticut lawmakers are advocating for a ban on flavored vapes in response to a 47% increase in youth e-cigarette use.

According to a report by WTNH, the number of children in the state of Connecticut using e-cigarette products has surged by 47% over the past two years.

Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and other legislators and advocates are pushing for some new measures in addressing the issue of youth e-cigarette use. One of their top priorities is to ban flavored e-cigarette products.

In most cases, when you walk into the school restroom, you will notice a scent of fruit or candy. This is clearly a marketing strategy targeted towards teenagers rather than adults," said Samantha Patch, a member of the Connecticut Youth Advisory Council.

Bloomberg also proposed a bill to create a new department within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to address the issue of teenage e-cigarette use.

Blumenthal stated, "This is a disease. Addiction is a disease. There will be a separate center established to implement a program aimed at curbing and stopping the use of more e-cigarettes and vaping devices.
