Over 12,000 students caught vaping in Malaysian schools, says Malaysian Ministry of Education
Malaysia's Deputy Minister of Education stated that over 12,000 students have been caught using e-cigarettes on school grounds this year. Despite a slight decline in usage rates, the Ministry of Education continues to urge the public and retailers to work together to prevent underage smoking.

Malaysia's Deputy Minister of Education, Wong Kah Woh, told the House of Representatives that more than 12,000 students have been caught using e-cigarettes on school grounds since the beginning of the year, according to The Star on Nov. 5.

As of September 30th, out of 5.1 million students nationwide, 12,252 students (0.24%) were found to be using e-cigarettes. Additionally, 2,365 students (0.05%) were discovered to be smoking. These figures represent a slight decrease compared to the same period last year.

The deputy minister pointed out that although the Ministry of Education has done its utmost to address the issue, he also called on the public and parents to join hands in tackling the issue of e-cigarettes and smoking. He further suggested that the public and parents increase their awareness of the dangers of these activities, and urged businesses not to sell e-cigarettes or cigarettes to minors.
