Fairfield City Council in Ohio Approves Nine-Month Ban on Marijuana Businesses
Fairfield City Council in Ohio has approved a nine-month ban on operating entertainment marijuana businesses, despite the state legalizing recreational marijuana.

According to media reports in the United States, the City Council of Fairfield, Ohio has approved a nine-month moratorium that prohibits businesses with recreational marijuana permits from operating within the city. Other local governments in the state are also considering taking similar measures.

City council member Matt Davidson argued that based on the fact that 57.9% of residents support the second highest rate of support, they should not ban the opening of marijuana businesses. While they can restrict the number of stores, they should not prohibit the industry, especially when zoning regulations will dictate the appearance and operations of such businesses.

For me, the difference between 58 and 42 is still far from the current median," said Davidson. "To me, this is a statement. It is a declaration of what citizens want, what they vote for, what they approve of.

On November 7th, Ohio voted to legalize recreational marijuana, making it the 24th state to do so. The law went into effect on Thursday and may be subject to modifications by the Ohio legislature. Currently, the law allows adults aged 21 and over to legally possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana, as well as to use and cultivate it (6 plants per person, 12 per household). Additionally, a 10% sales tax is imposed.
