The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued warning letters to seven online retailers on November 11th for selling unauthorized e-cigarette products. These letters accuse them of selling popular and appealing disposable e-cigarette products to young people, such as Elf Bar, EB Design, Bang, Cali Bars, and Lava brands.
The FDA stated that these warning letters were issued based on its ongoing monitoring of multiple surveillance systems to identify products that are popular or appealing among young people.
According to the results of the National Youth Tobacco Survey for 2023, more than half of current youth e-cigarette users reported using the disposable e-cigarette brand Elf Bar. Earlier this year, the manufacturer of Elf Bar began promoting the product under the brand "EB Design." Moreover, after reviewing retail sales data and emerging internal data from youth surveys, the FDA identified the brands Bang, Cali Bars, and Lava as popular or appealing to young people.
Dr. Brian King, Director of the FDA's Center for Tobacco Products, stated:
The FDA's strengthened monitoring of the e-cigarette industry helps us identify products that appeal to young people and take prompt action to protect public health. The goal is to identify, prevent, and reduce the risks posed to our youth by these products before they escalate further.
