Illegal E-cigarette Worth 2.5 Million Hryvnia Seized by Ukrainian Customs
Ukrainian customs officials seize illegal e-cigarettes worth 2.5 million hryvnia from vehicles crossing from Poland.

According to Ukrainian media Маргарита Пашкова on the evening of October 30th, customs officials in the Lviv region of Ukraine discovered illegal e-cigarettes worth 2.5 million hryvnia (approximately 500,000 yuan) during the inspection of two minibuses and an SUV. These vehicles entered the country from Poland, attempting to use the "green corridor" and claiming that there were no goods requiring customs declaration or taxation on board.


However, upon closer inspection, it was discovered that one vehicle was carrying 2250 flavored e-cigarettes, another vehicle contained 816 flavored e-cigarettes, and the remaining SUV concealed 1230 flavored e-cigarettes.


All three drivers are residents of the Lviv region and are facing penalties under Article 471, Section 3 of Ukrainian Customs Law: failure to declare goods prohibited or restricted by law for importation may result in a fine equivalent to 300 times the minimum taxable income, and may also lead to seizure of the goods.


Currently, these confiscated undeclared e-cigarettes have been temporarily detained and will be subjected to specific penalties in accordance with Ukrainian customs laws.

Ispire Q4 Revenue Rebounds 33% but Full-Year Sales Still Fall 25% as FY2027 Focus Shifts to Malaysia Manufacturing, ODM, Nicotine Pouches and Age Verification
Ispire Technology reported FY2026 revenue of about $96 million, down 24.7% year over year, as U.S. cannabis-vapor hardware and European e-cigarette sales declined by $17.4 million and $12.7 million, respectively. Fourth-quarter revenue rose 32.5% to $26.7 million, while quarterly gross margin fell to 6.3%. For FY2027, the company is prioritizing Malaysia manufacturing and vapor ODM while continuing to develop nicotine pouches, IKE Tech age-verification technology and G-Mesh licensing. Ispire has not separately disclosed the revenue or profit contribution of those newer businesses.

South Korea's Constitutional Court has upheld fixed taxes on nicotine-containing e-cigarette liquids based on solution volume, ruling that challenged provisions imposing KRW 370 per milliliter in individual consumption tax and KRW 628 per milliliter in tobacco consumption tax do not violate the Constitution. The cases stemmed from historical disputes involving importers that reported nicotine as being extracted from tobacco stems rather than leaves. South Korea has since broadened its tobacco definition to include synthetic nicotine, while current tax laws provide reduced rates for certain products not derived from tobacco.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has named Bret Koplow permanent director of the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products, ending his period as acting chief. Koplow has spent years working on tobacco regulation, law and policy inside the FDA and, while serving as acting director, pushed for faster PMTA reviews and nicotine pouch review pilots. HHS also said CTP will prioritize innovation and access to less harmful alternatives for adult smokers while continuing efforts to protect youth.

Philip Morris Japan (PMJ) launched Bold Ruby as a new regular color for the IQOS ILUMA i and IQOS ILUMA i ONE in Japan on September 16, 2026, priced at JPY 6,980 and JPY 3,980, respectively. Initial sales began through IQOS online and physical channels, with convenience stores and selected tobacco retailers set to follow from September 29. Bold Ruby is a regular rather than limited-edition colorway and is available for the ILUMA i and ILUMA i ONE, but not the ILUMA i PRIME. The release does not involve changes to the devices' core hardware or functions.

Hunan China Tobacco Industry files heated tobacco device patent featuring adult-user identification through pressure sensing
China-based Hunan China Tobacco Industry Co., Ltd. and Shenzhen Baisha Technology Co., Ltd. have filed a patent application covering an adult-user identification mechanism for heated tobacco devices. The patent proposes using flexible pressure sensors installed in the device grip area to collect pressure distribution patterns generated when users hold the device. The system evaluates factors including effective contact area, grip shape and contact duration, and combines roller movement detection to determine whether unlocking conditions are met. The filing reflects exploration of device-level user recognition and smarter interaction technologies for heated tobacco products (HTPs).
