Illegal Tobacco and E-Cigarette Seizure in Stoke-on-Trent by Police
Authorities in Stoke-on-Trent raided multiple shops, seizing thousands of pounds worth of illegal cigarettes and e-cigarettes, sparking criminal investigations.

According to a report by BBC on July 12th, the police in Stoke, England, conducted raids on multiple shops and seized thousands of pounds worth of illegal cigarettes and e-cigarettes.

Standard officials from the City Council and Staffordshire County Council seized 25,000 cigarettes, 2,350 e-cigarettes, and 7.5 kilograms of tobacco from five shops on Wednesday (10th). The City Council of Stoke-on-Trent stated that the retail value of the cigarettes and tobacco is approximately £20,000, while the e-cigarettes are valued at £30,000.

The authorities added that four businesses will receive a 48-hour closure notice and a criminal investigation has been initiated.

Deputy official Amjid Wazir stated that...

Illegal tobacco and e-cigarette sales are impacting the trade of our city's legitimate businesses and putting consumers at risk. We will not tolerate this behavior. When we have evidence, we will take action against businesses selling illegal goods in Stoke-on-Trent.

The Cabinet member responsible for trade standards, Victoria Wilson, stated that...

The illegal trade of tobacco and e-cigarettes is closely linked to organized crime, posing a threat to our health, especially the health of young people. Removing these items from the streets is a significant achievement. Not only does it benefit criminals, but it also harms our local communities and legitimate businesses.
