Illinois Passes Ban on Vaping in Public Buildings
Illinois passes bill to ban e-cigarette use in public buildings, becoming the 18th US state to do so.

On May 10th, both the House and Senate of Illinois passed a bill to prohibit the use of electronic cigarettes indoors in public buildings. If the bill is signed by the governor, Illinois will become the 18th state in the US to ban indoor smoking in public buildings. Senator Julie Morrison, who introduced the bill in the Senate, stated that the measure would protect public health and safety.

There is absolutely no reason for people to be exposed to electronic cigarette products in public places.

Illinois Governor Pritzker is currently reviewing legislation that would ban the use of electronic cigarettes in public places throughout the state. According to Speaker of the House Michael Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton, the bill would help Illinois residents breathe clean, smoke-free air and improve public health. Ally Lopshire, Government Relations Director for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, said that the ban would prevent the potential harm of harmful chemicals and protect public health. The bill, which was previously approved by the Illinois state legislature and would complement existing laws banning the sale of tobacco products to people under 21 and limiting e-cigarette advertising to minors, is now awaiting the governor's signature.
