Indonesia’s Statistics Agency: Bali Leads Nation in E-Cigarette Use; Urban Usage Climbing Sharply
Indonesia’s statistics agency (BPS) reports in its latest publication, Statistics of People’s Welfare 2025, that Bali has the highest share of daily e-cigarette users at 1.66%, followed by East Kalimantan (1.59%) and the Special Region of Yogyakarta (1.24%). Daily vaping prevalence is higher in urban areas (0.77%) than in rural areas (0.53%).

2Firsts, October 16, 2025 — According to GoodStats, the Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) publication Statistik Kesejahteraan Rakyat 2025 (Statistics of People’s Welfare 2025) shows notable variation across provinces in the share of e-cigarette users in 2025. Bali ranks first nationwide at 1.66%, followed by East Kalimantan (1.59%), the Special Region of Yogyakarta (1.24%), and Southwest Papua (1.18%) in fourth place. These provinces have markedly higher e-cigarette use than most other regions.

Provinces with usage shares below 1% include South Sumatra and West Java (each 0.83%), West Sulawesi (0.78%), Riau Islands (0.77%), North Sulawesi (0.75%), and South Sulawesi (0.72%). The report also notes that although the overall share of e-cigarette users remains relatively low, usage is trending upward in several areas—especially in urban regions.

 

By residence, the proportion of daily e-cigarette users is 0.77% in urban areas, significantly higher than 0.53% in rural areas. By frequency, daily users account for 0.67%, exceeding non-daily users at 0.54%.
