Ireland's Insurance Firms Warn Drivers of E-cigarette Penalties.
Irish insurance companies warn drivers that they could face fines up to €120 if police determine e-cigarette use impairs driving.

According to recent reports in the Irish Mirror, insurance companies in Ireland have issued warnings to car owners that they could potentially face fines of up to €120 if the police determine that e-cigarettes are impairing their ability to drive.

Although it is not illegal to smoke an e-cigarette inside a car, if the driver's attention is distracted by the e-cigarette vapor, they could potentially face charges for reckless driving, as these emissions can impair vision and potentially lead to accidents.

Conor Mulcahy, an automotive expert at Quote Devil, highlighted the significant risks associated with vaping while driving for both the driver, passengers, and other motorists. He explained that many car owners tend to overlook the legal aspects of e-cigarettes and fail to realize that smoking them in the presence of individuals under the age of 18 is against the law.

Mr. Murakai added, "While smoking an e-cigarette in your car is not technically illegal, if the police believe that the vapor from the e-cigarette is affecting your driving, they may take action.

If you are distracted while driving by an e-cigarette, you may also be fined 80 euros for careless driving, resulting in a deduction of two points. If you already have four points on your license, the fine will increase to 120 euros in the case of careless driving.

Reuters Tracks Big Tobacco’s Shift Beyond Cigarettes as Nicotine Pouches Vie for the Next Growth Curve
As cigarette markets face long-term pressure, major tobacco companies are increasingly turning to nicotine pouches in search of growth beyond combustible tobacco. Reuters has examined whether nicotine pouches can become the next strategic growth platform for companies including Philip Morris International, British American Tobacco and Japan Tobacco. PMI strengthened its position through the acquisition of Swedish Match and its ZYN brand, while BAT and JTI continue expanding their own nicotine pouch portfolios. The category has gained attention because of its smoke-free, device-free format, but regulation, youth-use concerns and market scale will determine whether it can become a long-term growth engine.

Malaysia Withdraws Appeal Against Liquid Nicotine Ruling as Vape Regulation Framework Enters New Phase
Malaysia’s government has withdrawn its appeal against a High Court ruling concerning the regulatory status of liquid nicotine used in vape and e-cigarette products, according to reports by New Straits Times, Free Malaysia Today and CodeBlue on August 18, 2026. The Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled on May 15 that the government’s decision to remove liquid nicotine from the scheduled poisons list under the Poisons Act 1952 was irrational and made without proper consultation with the Poisons Board. The withdrawal ends the government’s appeal process, while the future regulatory framework for nicotine vape products remains under discussion.

China Tobacco Hubei explores staged nicotine pouch delivery, using dynamic membranes to slow early release and gradient particles to sustain later delivery
China Tobacco Hubei Industrial Co., Ltd. disclosed several oral nicotine-related patent applications in August 2026, including two that approach staged nicotine release from different directions. One uses a high-viscosity membrane that forms inside the pouch after contact with saliva to slow rapid early release, while the other uses gradient particles with a faster-disintegrating outer layer and a slower core to create a fast-to-sustained release profile. Together, the filings explore how nicotine pouches could balance initial delivery with release later in use.
