Large-scale Operation in Las Palmas Leads to Seizure of Illegal E-cigarettes
Spanish authorities seize over 11,000 illegal e-cigarette products in Las Palmas, suspecting illegal smuggling and threats to public health.

On October 14, according to a report by Canarianweekly, the Spanish Civil Guard carried out a large-scale operation and confiscated over 11,000 illegal e-cigarette products in the city of Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. The seizures included both disposable and rechargeable products.

Authorities suspect that these products have been smuggled onto the island through illegal channels, posing a serious threat to public health. Upon receiving intelligence on the illegal sale and distribution of e-cigarettes, the police immediately initiated action. The products mentioned in the intelligence reports do not comply with the regulations set by the Spanish Ministry of Health, established by the General Directorate of Public Health. These regulations cover the production, labeling, and distribution of products to ensure their safe consumption.

The financial and border patrol departments of the Spanish National Guard swiftly conducted inspections in the capital city of Gran Canaria, leading to the seizure of illegal goods being sold in various retail establishments such as tobacco shops, stores, and markets. Most of these goods originated from outside the European Union and were illegally imported.

The National Guard emphasizes that in Europe and Spain, strict controls on e-cigarettes are implemented under relevant laws to ensure consumer safety. Therefore, the sale and use of illegal substances may pose significant threats to public health.
