Malaysia CID Endorses Nationwide Vape Ban Amid Rising Drug-Laced Vape Cases
Malaysia’s Federal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has voiced support for a nationwide ban on vaping, particularly targeting drug-laced vape devices, to address rising abuse cases.

2Firsts, October 23, 2025 — According to the New Straits Times, Malaysia’s Federal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has expressed its full support for a nationwide ban on vaping, particularly drug-laced vapes, in a move aimed at curbing drug abuse and protecting public safety.

 

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah told Parliament that CID would support state-level efforts to ban vape sales entirely, noting that community cooperation is key in reporting illegal sales and misuse.

 

He said the Home Ministry is tightening regulations to control the content and distribution of vaping products, while the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), the police, and the Health Ministry are carrying out various preventive and treatment programmes.

 

Shamsul cited a meeting on July 3, chaired by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, which gathered law enforcement and health authorities to strengthen coordinated action against drug-laced vapes.

 

In response to earlier questions, Shamsul highlighted that 192,857 people were detected abusing drugs in 2024, up from 145,526 in 2023 — a 32.5% increase.

According to Ukrainska Pravda, Russian strikes on the Kyiv region during the night of Aug. 4-5, 2026, damaged warehouses storing products of Japan Tobacco International (JTI) and Imperial Brands Ukraine. JTI said a finished goods warehouse in Kyiv Oblast was destroyed, with no employees injured, and that it did not expect disruptions to retail supplies. Imperial Brands Ukraine said products stored at warehouses of distributors and retail partners were affected and estimated losses from the strikes at “tens of millions of Ukrainian hryvnias” (roughly hundreds of thousands of U.S. dollars).

China’s Zhengzhou Tobacco Research Institute develops end-to-end heated tobacco analysis to trace aerosol compound origins
The Zhengzhou Tobacco Research Institute of China National Tobacco Corporation has filed a patent application for an end-to-end method to analyze the migration and transformation of chemical compounds in heated tobacco products. Using GC-Orbitrap/MS non-targeted analysis, the method compares tobacco substrate and aerosol samples to distinguish compounds transferred directly from the substrate from those newly formed during heating, while also calculating transfer rates. In an example involving nine heated tobacco products, the patent identified 17 newly formed thermal decomposition compounds and 38 transferred compounds.

UK HMRC Plans 30,000 Retail Enforcement Actions as Illegal Tobacco and Vape Sellers Face Tougher Crackdown
The UK government has announced that HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) will carry out more than 30,000 interventions targeting businesses and retail premises during the 2026-2027 financial year. The actions will focus on tax fraud, illegal goods sales and businesses involved in unlawful activities through retail channels. The government said illegal tobacco and illegal vape sales remain areas of concern. The move shows that UK enforcement against illegal nicotine products is expanding from import and supply channels toward retail-level oversight, alongside the upcoming introduction of the Vaping Products Duty.
