Meeting between State Tobacco Monopoly Administration and JTI Executives
Wang Gongcheng, Deputy Director of State Tobacco Monopoly Administration, met with JTI President for Asia Pacific, Bob Yi, in Beijing.

On May 7th, Wang Gongcheng, a member of the Party group and Deputy Director of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration, met with a visiting delegation led by Bao Biyi, President of Japan Tobacco International (JTI) Asia Pacific. The two sides held friendly discussions during the meeting in Beijing.

 

Officials from the State Administration for Foreign Affairs, the Development Planning Department, China Tobacco Sales Corporation, and China National Tobacco International Group Limited attended the meeting.

U.S. Court Formally Approves Imperial Tobacco Canada Restructuring Plan Involving US$23.6 Billion Settlement
The U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York has approved and recognized the restructuring plan of Imperial Tobacco Canada Ltd., granting legal effect in the U.S. to its participation in a CA$32.5 billion (US$23.6 billion) tobacco litigation settlement. The case is considered one of the largest corporate restructurings in Canadian history and also involves Japan Tobacco International (JTI), Philip Morris International (PMI), and British American Tobacco (BAT).

Queensland, Australia Cracks Down on Illegal Tobacco Trade: Seizes 350,000 E-cigarette Products, Imposes Over $12.77 Million in Fines
The Queensland government has ramped up efforts against illegal tobacco and e-cigarette trade. Since the operation launched in November 2024, authorities have seized 45 million illegal cigarettes, 350,000 e-cigarettes, and over 6 tons of loose tobacco, with fines totaling AUD 19.7 million (approximately $12.77 million). The government also plans to hire 43 additional public health officers to strengthen enforcement.
