2Firsts, Sep 9, 2025 —— From WHKY's report, The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) Team conducted a traffic stop on Wednesday, September 3, on I-77 North near the 61-mile marker after observing a traffic violation by a Mercedes-Benz bearing New York plates. Deputies identified the driver as Paul Daniel Sanchez, who said he was traveling from Charlotte back to New York.

 

During the encounter, deputies noted indicators of criminal activity and observed drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle. A subsequent search uncovered more than 600 THC vape cartridges concealed within the car.

 

Sanchez was taken into custody without incident. He is charged with felony possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance, felony possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance, felony maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

The suspect received a $75,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in District Court on September 25. Authorities note the investigation remains active, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
