New York Senator Proposes Statewide Ban on Nicotine Pouches
NY Post reported on Feb 23 that NY Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal introduced a bill to ban all flavored nicotine pouches statewide.

According to a report from the NY Post on February 23, New York State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal has introduced a bill seeking to completely ban the sale of flavored nicotine pouches throughout the state.

Sigel pointed out in the memo that the nicotine in these products comes from tobacco or synthetic nicotine, which may lead to addiction. He upholds the values of New York state and believes that all enticing nicotine product flavors should be prohibited, including nicotine pouches.

Previously, the USA FDA (FDA) approved for the first time the marketing and sale of 20 ZYN nicotine pouch products.

A recent annual federally-funded survey revealed that the percentage of 12th-grade students using ZYN doubled from 3% to 6% since last year.

Siegler emphasized that the bill targets flavored products most likely to be used by young people, aiming to prevent youth addiction to popular products like ZYN.

Brian Erkilla, Chief of Regulatory Science at Philip Morris International (PMI), stated that the proposed ban on ZYN and other nicotine pouches in New York would be a mistake. The ban, if implemented, would affect 1.6 million smokers who are looking for smoking alternatives.
