New Zealand's Consumer Data Reveals Bright Spots in Various Industries

New Zealand's consumer data shows swimming pools, theaters, ticket agencies, e-cigarette stores, and duty-free shops becoming highlights of consumer spending.

New Zealand media outlet NZ Herald reported on January 10 that consumer data from New Zealand reveals that industries such as swimming pools, live theaters, ticket agencies, e-cigarette shops, and duty-free stores have emerged as bright spots in New Zealand's consumer market.

According to data released by Worldline, retail spending set a record in December of last year, while overall retail spending in New Zealand is projected to reach NZD 36.8 billion (approximately USD 25.4 billion) in 2023, representing a 3.8% increase from the previous year. The average transaction amount for 2023 is NZD 51.10, marking a 1.5% decrease from 2022, indicating that consumers were more cautious in their spending last year despite an increase in consumer prices.

Expenditures for live theaters and ticket agencies increased by 16.9% compared to last year. Expenditures for e-cigarette stores, as well as massage, health, and beauty establishments, grew by 16.5% and 14.1% respectively.
