【2Firsts News Flash】According to a report from ABC3340News on July 23, the city of Pelham in the United States has implemented a temporary ban on establishing new CBD and e-cigarette stores, which will remain in effect until December 31, 2026. This decision was made by city leaders in response to a state law aimed at regulating cannabis-derived products, which will take effect on January 1, 2026.

The Pelham City Council unanimously voted to pass this ban, aiming to give the city time to adjust to the complexities of Alabama's new marijuana law (House Bill 445). The law, which goes into effect on July 1, authorizes the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board to regulate products such as CBD and Delta-8, and introduces new rules regarding testing, packaging, and licensing.

“Currently, there is much uncertainty about these regulations and what they mean for licensing and enforcement.”

A city official stated.

This ban will not affect existing businesses but will prevent any new CBD or e-cigarette stores from opening.

“We hope to set aside some time to observe how things develop and determine if we need to adjust our regulations or permitting rules.”

The city official said.

Supporters of the ban, including Pelham resident Christine Carr, expressed their appreciation for the city council's decision.

“Tonight, I sincerely thank you for passing this ban. Your vote today not only benefits the image of Pellham, but it is literally saving lives.”
