Philippine Health Department Reiterates Ban on Smoking in Detention Centers
DOH reiterated smoking ban in Philippine detention centers, citing benefits for detainees, visitors, and personnel. BJMP strictly enforces policy.

According to a report by Tribune on July 16, the Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines reiterated on Monday (July 15) the ban on smoking and e-cigarette use in detention facilities, stating that the ban is "a good thing".

 

According to a memorandum issued in May 2011, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has banned smoking in all its national headquarters, regional facilities, and prison facilities.

 

In the process of signing the "National Policy on Health Promotion and Protection in Prisons, Detention Facilities, and Other Detention Places" to ensure that persons deprived of liberty (PDL) have access to healthcare, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Health in the Philippines, Albert Domingo, stated that the policy not only beneficial for PDLs, but also for their visiting families.

 

How to avoid cigarette smoke and e-cigarette vapor in a closed space? Imagine if visitors come, such as the pregnant wife of an inmate coming to visit. Even if her husband doesn't smoke, if others are smoking, the pregnant woman will inhale secondhand smoke.

 

Therefore, banning smoking and e-cigarettes in detention centers is not only beneficial for the incarcerated individuals but also advantageous for their family members and guards.

 

According to prison policies, regulations, and rules, cigarettes and other tobacco products are considered contraband.

Canadian Health Minister Marjorie Michel says she is not considering loosening retail restrictions on nicotine pouches. Canada regulates pouches containing 4 mg or less of nicotine per unit as non-prescription nicotine replacement therapy and requires newer NRT formats such as pouches to be sold from behind pharmacy counters. Meanwhile, Unsmoke Canada, linked to Philip Morris International's Canadian business, is pushing to allow pouches in convenience stores and other general retail outlets. Health Canada also acknowledges continued unauthorized sales, while recent research shows rising pouch use among Canadian youth aged 16 to 19.

Switzerland Tightens Vape Checks as Only 3 of 32 Tested Products Meet New Tobacco Rules
According to Swiss media outlet Blick, local authorities are strengthening compliance checks on vape products, nicotine pouches and other tobacco-related products following the implementation of Switzerland’s revised Tobacco Products Act. A Basel laboratory tested 32 disposable vapes and e-liquids, with only three meeting regulatory requirements and 21 products banned from sale. Swiss authorities are also expanding retail inspections, laboratory testing and youth purchase checks to enforce the new tobacco and nicotine product rules.

Ispire Q4 Revenue Rebounds 33% but Full-Year Sales Still Fall 25% as FY2027 Focus Shifts to Malaysia Manufacturing, ODM, Nicotine Pouches and Age Verification
Ispire Technology reported FY2026 revenue of about $96 million, down 24.7% year over year, as U.S. cannabis-vapor hardware and European e-cigarette sales declined by $17.4 million and $12.7 million, respectively. Fourth-quarter revenue rose 32.5% to $26.7 million, while quarterly gross margin fell to 6.3%. For FY2027, the company is prioritizing Malaysia manufacturing and vapor ODM while continuing to develop nicotine pouches, IKE Tech age-verification technology and G-Mesh licensing. Ispire has not separately disclosed the revenue or profit contribution of those newer businesses.
