Philippine Tobacco Industry Supports Proposal to Ban Disposable E-Cigarettes

The Filipino tobacco industry backs the finance department's proposal to ban disposable e-cigarettes, with mixed reactions from officials.

According to a report by Philippine media outlet philstar on April 19th, the tobacco industry in the Philippines has expressed support for the proposal by the Department of Finance to ban disposable e-cigarettes.

The Mayor of Candon City, Eric Singson, expressed openness to the proposal of Finance Secretary Ralph Recto regarding a ban on disposable e-cigarettes in an interview with Philstar.

If this is a trend, there may be ample reason to ban it. If it has an impact on the health of users, especially minors, then I am open to it.

The Department of Health (DOH) and some senators have expressed support for the proposed ban, but the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has not yet taken a clear stance. The DTI is the main enforcer of the e-cigarette law, known as Republic Act No. 11900. The Department of Agriculture and the National Tobacco Administration have also not issued a definitive statement regarding the proposal.
