According to the Malaysian news outlet Sarawak Tribune, Veronica Choo, the Corporate Affairs Director of Phillip Morris Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PMM), recently mentioned that the company has invested a total of 1.25 billion US dollars in research and development for the production of new tobacco products.
Veronica Chu expressed during her sharing session with media professionals that she is embarking on a journey towards a smoke-free future.
We have converted 36.5 million adult smokers to our new tobacco product. Therefore, our goal is clear, which is to ensure a smoke-free future.
However, Veronica Zhu also pointed out that without effective government policies, reducing the number of future smokers will become difficult. She emphasized the need to develop innovative policies and regulations based on scientific findings to ensure the goal of reducing the number of smokers is achieved.
She added that Japan is currently using a new type of tobacco, which has been linked to the decrease in cigarette sales. All of this is credited to the country's better regulations. Therefore, today we must ask ourselves how to maximize the public health benefits by creating better alternatives through innovation.
