Police Raid on Smugglers: Seizure of Illegal Items in Antalya
Turkish police cracked down on smugglers in Antalya, seizing a large amount of illegal goods, including tobacco and firearms.

According to Turkish media outlet TRTHaber, a joint operation was conducted by the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch of the Antalya Provincial Police Department and the Aksu District Police Department in the areas of Muratpaşa, Kepez, Aksu, and Manavgat. The operation targeted the offices of individuals suspected of being involved in smuggling activities.

 

In an ongoing search, authorities have seized a significant quantity of illegal items, including 52 kilograms of shredded tobacco, 496 bottles of e-liquid, 1077 cigars, 157,920 empty cigarette rolls, 848 bottles of alcohol, 116 pills, and three unregistered handguns.

 

Currently, judicial procedures have been initiated against the 13 suspects who have been detained. This operation demonstrates the law enforcement's zero-tolerance attitude towards smuggling crimes and their determination to combat such criminal activities.

A new Swedish study found oral mucosal lesions in 79% of examined nicotine pouch users and 89% of tobacco-derived snus users, with different tissue-response patterns between the two categories. For manufacturers and regulators, the findings shift attention toward product formulation, flavouring, pouch materials and local oral exposure, not only whether a product contains tobacco. The study found no higher prevalence of caries or periodontal disease, but it could not establish causality, long-term outcomes or differences between individual products or designs.

The agency also plans a public list identifying manufacturers and products it does not currently intend to prioritize for enforcement under the May guidance. NATO says its membership includes more than 66,000 retail stores, making product-status transparency and enforcement boundaries directly relevant to the retail sector.
