Potential Penalties for Non-Compliance with Indian Tobacco Advertising Regulations
India's Union Health Ministry warns that streaming platforms may be penalized if they do not comply with tobacco warning regulations.

According to a report by Dailypioneer, the Union Health Ministry of India has stated that streaming platforms may face penalties if they fail to comply with India's regulations on the dissemination of accurate tobacco warning messages.

The Ministry of Health stated that recent media reports about a "disturbing compromise" between the federal government and streaming platforms regarding tobacco warnings are "based on misleading facts and false information.

The Ministry of Health stated in its declaration that "the media reports are not accurate and do not accurately reflect the federal government's commitment to improving public health as one of its top priorities." Given that public health is a priority, the government has expanded tobacco product regulations to all streaming platforms. The regulations will come into effect from September 1, 2023.

According to these regulations, all streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney + Hotstar, Jio Cinema, Sony LIV, ALTBalaji, Voot, and others must now display anti-tobacco health advertisements.
