According to The Peninsula's report on June 27th, the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar recently issued a warning strongly opposing the use of e-cigarettes, emphasizing the hidden health risks associated with them.
The Ministry of Health stated in a video posted on social media platforms: "Before using e-cigarettes, it is important to think carefully and understand the potential risks they may pose.
According to the law, Qatar prohibits the sale, distribution, and promotion of e-cigarettes.
According to statistics, over 37 million teenagers worldwide are using e-cigarettes. According to publicly released data, the usage rate of e-cigarettes among tobacco users in Qatar is approximately 11%.
The Ministry of Health has issued a warning about this alarming data and stressed the need for heightened attention. The Ministry emphasized that e-cigarettes can increase health risks, with almost 90% of lung cancer cases being linked to smoking.
The warning from the Ministry of Health is part of health authorities' efforts to curb the use of e-cigarettes. They continue to caution that smoking is not a recognized method of quitting smoking, lacks scientific evidence, and has not been approved by the US FDA as a smoking cessation aid.
In Qatar, authorities have implemented strict tobacco control measures, including a comprehensive ban on smoking in public places, including indoor areas and certain outdoor spaces. The country has also enforced strict regulations on tobacco advertising, promotion, and sponsorship, with the aim of reducing tobacco consumption and curbing the growth of youth smoking.
Promotional campaigns often emphasize the health risks associated with smoking and advocate for smoke-free environments. In addition, the healthcare system provides resources for smoking cessation, including counseling services and nicotine replacement therapy, to support individuals in quitting smoking.
