Rising Concerns Over Illegal E-cigarette Sales in Staffordshire

Illegal e-cigarette sales in Staffordshire have surged, with 73% found in convenience stores, prompting calls for stricter enforcement.

According to a report by Talking Retail on September 26th, new data collected by the UK e-cigarette retailer Evapo through Freedom of Information (FOI) requests shows a worrying increase in illegal e-cigarette sales in Staffordshire. 73% of these illegal products were found in convenience stores and grocery stores, while e-cigarette shops accounted for 17% of the total.

The county council's Cabinet member responsible for trading standards, Victoria Wilson, emphasized:

We are committed to removing these harmful products from the market in Staffordshire County. The sale of illegal e-cigarettes, especially to minors, is an increasingly serious issue, and we are determined to address this problem through rigorous enforcement and public cooperation.

Evapo CEO Andrej Kuttruf commented on the findings from the Freedom of Information Act (FOI).

The widespread presence of illegal e-cigarettes in convenience stores is shocking and poses a significant risk to public health. These products often bypass safety regulations, making them especially dangerous. Evapo supports the UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA) in calling for a licensing system to be implemented, which would not only control who can sell these products but also raise up to £50 million for trading standards departments to effectively enforce existing laws.
