Russian Police Seize Illegal E-Cigarettes Worth $360,000
Russian police seize $360,000 worth of illegal e-cigarettes and pods in Volgograd, leading to criminal charges against a businessman.

According to the Russian media outlet 360.ru, Russian police seized a batch of illegal e-cigarettes and vape pods worth a total of 36 million rubles (approximately $36,000) in Volgograd.

 

According to the investigation, a businessman purchased untaxed goods from other regions and transported them to a warehouse in Volgograd via courier. The products were then sold through physical stores and wholesale channels. The police seized over 46,000 related products in total.

 

The businessman is facing criminal charges for allegedly engaging in large-scale illegal sales of goods requiring labeling. The court has imposed travel restrictions on him and ordered him to appear in court on time. If found guilty, he could face up to six years in prison.

Daegu’s Jung-gu District announced on Feb. 10 that, following amendments to the Tobacco Business Act that explicitly classify liquid e-cigarettes containing synthetic nicotine as “tobacco” (effective April 24, 2026), the district will expand regulations to include fines for vaping such products in designated nonsmoking areas. The district health office said smokers/vapers could face an administrative fine of up to 100,000 won for using synthetic-nicotine liquid e-cigarettes in smoke-free zones
