UK Retailer Fined for Selling E-Cigarette to Underage Children

UK shop fined for selling e-cigarette to child in Bournemouth, violating age verification laws, says Yahoo News on Feb 27.

According to a report by Yahoo News on February 27th, a business in Bournemouth, England was fined for selling e-cigarettes to children without verifying their age.

The offender is 55-year-old businessman Antonio Baker Versace from Bournemouth, who sold an e-cigarette called Lost Mary to a 15-year-old volunteer at the Mario Bizza store in Royal Wootton Bassett.

He was fined £293, with an additional fee of £117 and costs of £700. Councillor Nick Holder said, "This prosecution clearly demonstrates that we are fulfilling our commitment to protect our residents from harm according to our business plan, while cracking down on businesses that do not comply with regulations."

Recently, the Wilton County Trading Standards Authority has noted a rising trend in complaints regarding the sale of e-cigarette products to minors. Mr. Holden added, "E-cigarettes are being sold to children with attractive packaging, flavors, and affordable prices." The local government is encouraging residents to report products being sold to children by calling the citizens' advice consumer service hotline.
