Warning Issued by UK Utility Companies Over E-Cigarette Blockages

Dozens of e-cigarettes found clogging drains in Carlisle by United Utilities prompts warning to public, says BBC.

According to a report from the BBC on July 16th, the British water utility company, United Utilities, issued a warning to the public after finding dozens of e-cigarette blockages in the sewer system in Carlisle Dalston.

The company stated that over 50 e-cigarettes, including ones labeled with the brand name "hayati," were found clogging a pumping station near Carlisle in Dalston. Additionally, an increasing number of e-cigarettes have been discovered at other processing plants throughout the county.

Andrew Kendall, responsible for wastewater treatment in the county, stated that only toilet paper should be flushed down the toilet.

The issue of e-cigarettes being thrown into sewer networks is a trend we have seen emerging in recent years with their increasing popularity. We want to remind everyone not to flush them down the toilet or throw them into the sewer.
