Brazilian Federal Police Crack Down on Illegal E-cigarette Trade

Brazilian federal police in São Paulo have arrested four individuals involved in a criminal organization suspected of importing and selling e-cigarettes and accessories.

In recent days, the Federal Police of São Paulo, Brazil carried out 15 search and seizure orders targeting a criminal organization involved in the importation and sale of e-cigarettes, e-liquids, and e-cigarette accessories through online and offline stores in São Paulo city.

The police confiscated a total of 2,906 e-cigarettes, 858 e-liquid samples, and 389 e-cigarette accessories, as well as 81,400 real (equivalent to approximately 120,000 RMB) in cash.

In the operation, four suspects were apprehended on the spot and will face charges of smuggling. The federal court will decide whether to convert their arrests into preventative detention, which entails imprisonment without a release deadline.

In 2009, the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency banned the sale and promotion of e-cigarettes.
