According to Canal2tv's report on August 20th, the Brazilian Senate's Economic Affairs Committee (CAE) has once again postponed the vote on the bill regulating the production and sale of e-cigarettes.
Reporters from the committee expressed discontent when Eduardo Gomes requested a postponement of the vote, as both parties had already reached an agreement to vote on this day.
Despite this, Gomez accepted the delay and the voting time has been scheduled for September 3rd, when the committee will conduct a face-to-face meeting.
The president of CAE, Vanderlan Cardoso, also expressed disappointment over the delay. He mentioned that senators, regardless of their support or opposition, had agreed to vote on August 20 before the recess. Cardoso pointed out that despite any opposition, especially from the Ministry of Health, the vote was necessary.
This bill has been repeatedly delayed due to a lack of consensus among senators.
Although e-cigarettes have been banned in Brazil since 2009, the illicit market for e-cigarettes remains active, sparking concerns among the public about the impact on public health.
In addition, 34 health organizations have issued an open letter to lawmakers, urging them not to pass this bill.
