Cyprus Parliament Urges Action Against Harmful E-Cigarette Usage
Cyprus Parliament Health Committee vows immediate action to curb e-cigarette use and sales among youth, citing harmful effects.

According to a report by Cyprus-Mail on July 4th, on Thursday (4th), the Cyprus Parliament Health Committee pointed out that e-cigarettes are particularly harmful to young people. This prompted members of parliament to pledge immediate action to curb the "unreasonable use and sale of e-cigarettes".

The committee's chairman, Efthymios Diplaros, stated

The alarm has been sounded, we must take immediate action.

Health Minister Michael Damianos has called on all relevant departments and organizations to submit their positions.

After the meeting, when asked about measures regarding e-cigarettes, Damianos stated that it is a complex issue that requires the opinions of all stakeholders in order to proceed.

You understand that smoking cannot be banned overnight.

Regarding the issue of e-cigarettes in elementary schools, the minister clarified, "Nicotine and e-cigarettes are two separate things.

Diplaros expressed shock at the concerns raised. "We all have children, and we know how easy it is for them to access tobacco products," he suggested that a special committee be established from the parliamentary health committee to address this issue.

Altria Smokeable Profit Rises 2.4% as Marlboro Share Falls and U.S. Discounts Gain
Altria’s second-quarter results show a U.S. nicotine market splitting across price, product and regulation. Smokeable profit rose 2.4% as Marlboro pricing offset lower volumes, while discount brand Basic gained share among value-conscious smokers. In oral nicotine, on! PLUS expanded distribution but faced intensifying competition from ZYN and Velo. NJOY remained off the market as patent and regulatory hurdles delayed its return. The broader lesson: U.S. growth increasingly depends on price-tier strategy, retail execution, authorisation and enforcement readiness across the industry.
