Derbyshire County Council Receives £5m Funding to Tackle Smoking

Derbyshire County Council pledges £5 million to combat above-average smoking rates with government funding over the next five years.

According to a report by questmedianetwork on April 17th, the Derbyshire County Council has recently pledged to accept £5 million (approximately $6.23 million) in funding from the government over the next five years to address the county's smoking rates that are higher than the national average.

The agreement for this action was reached during a council meeting on April 11th. The county stated that by accepting the government's first additional funding to help local authorities reduce the smoking rate across the county. The first batch of funding from the Cabinet for 2024 to 2025 is £1,083,451 (1.35 million dollars).

The county health department's planning manager, Alex Carlow, stated: "This additional funding is good news for our services, providing us with more resources to offer smoking cessation support to more people.
