Dutch Retail Chain Albert Heijn Stops Selling Tobacco Products in Stores
Dutch retail chain Albert Heijn has stopped selling cigarettes and tobacco products in hundreds of stores starting today.

According to a report from the Dutch public broadcaster NOS Nieuws on January 1st, the renowned retail chain Albert Heijn has announced the suspension of cigarette and other tobacco product sales in hundreds of its stores starting today.

 

This move is an early action taken to align with the upcoming tobacco ban policy, which will be implemented on July 1st. Lidl, the supermarket chain, had already ceased the sale of tobacco products two years ago.

 

Albert Hein's decision to stop selling tobacco products is aimed at achieving a healthier society and avoiding the delay of the comprehensive ban on tobacco sales in supermarkets, which is scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2024. Only a few licensed stores and Albert Hein stores located within gas stations will be permitted to continue selling cigarettes in the coming months.
