2Firsts, August 27, 2025 —— According to WKFR, the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA) announced on August 27 the recall of 5,765 “Kushy Punch” brand cannabis vape cartridges produced by Ann Arbor company Exclusive Brands, after an investigation found the products contained medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil, which is banned in cannabis vaping products.

The CRA officially prohibited the use of MCT oil in cannabis vapes in October 2024. However, recent testing revealed that some companies continue to ignore the regulation. The agency noted that although MCT oil is widely used and safe in food, inhaling it into the lungs can cause inflammation and lead to more severe illnesses, including pneumonia and bronchitis.

This is not the first recall. Earlier this month, the CRA recalled more than 26,000 “Motor City Cannacarts” and “RIPZ” brand vape cartridges produced by Warren-based Sky Cannabis for the same reason.

Regulators urged consumers, especially those who purchased the “Pineapple Jealousy” flavor Kushy Punch vapes, to immediately consult the recall bulletin to determine if their products are affected. Eligible products can be returned or exchanged according to store policy. Consumers who have experienced adverse effects are advised to seek medical attention and report symptoms to their healthcare provider.

The CRA emphasized it will continue strict oversight and testing of cannabis vaping products in circulation to safeguard public health.
