Five Stores in Newcastle, England Facing Prosecution for Selling Tobacco and E-Cigarettes to Minors
Five Newcastle shops face prosecution for selling tobacco and e-cigarettes to children, with illegal goods worth over £50k seized.

Five shops in Newcastle, England are facing prosecution after being found selling tobacco and e-cigarettes to children, according to a report by Chroniclelive on July 30th.

On July 26, plainclothes police officers and police academy students visited five shops in Bonville, Ellswick, Finham, and Scottswood. The police seized 33,261 counterfeit cigarettes, 131 packets of hand-rolled tobacco, and 999 illegal e-cigarettes from these shops, including the brand "HAYATI." The total estimated value of the case is £50,877.


Inspector Patrick Hannon of Northumbria Police expressed concern over the growing trend of youth vaping e-cigarettes in recent years, prompting the enforcement action.


Retailers should be aware that selling e-cigarettes containing nicotine to individuals under the age of 18 is a criminal act. We will continue to investigate individuals and businesses selling such products to our underage volunteers.
