According to a report from Indonesia's national information portal on December 3rd, the Indonesian Tambaksari Customs has taken enforcement action against millions of illegal tobacco products in the Sidoarjo village area of Tambaksari District. This is part of a crackdown on illegal tobacco and represents an additional effort by customs authorities to eliminate the illicit distribution of tobacco.
Yudiyarto, Director of Tegal Customs, has revealed that this enforcement action is a response to information received regarding the possibility of illegal cigarette shipment passing through the Tegal Customs area. He stated, "The operation began on Saturday (December 2nd) after receiving this information. Our team immediately took action and conducted searches at several strategic points in the Tegal district, which are believed to be routes that public buses may use to transport illegal tobacco.
In the early morning of December 3, 2023, at 03:00, the target was found parked at the Pertamina Peleman gas station parking area in Sidoarjo village, in accordance with the information received. Customs officials from Special Task Force immediately stopped and inspected the vehicle. He stated, "The inspection results indicate that the vehicle was transporting 320,000 units of SKM-type non-cigarette products, without any tax stamps. This illegal activity could potentially cause a loss of 272 million rupees to the nation, with an estimated value of the goods being around 402 million rupees.
