Jordan Customs Seizes 10 Tons of Expired Tobacco, Thousands of Illegal Vapes

Jordan Customs has seized 10 tons of expired tobacco, 60,000 packs of e-liquid, and over 10,000 illegal vapes, many of which were smuggled into the country. Customs authorities are gathering information on the sale and manufacture of these illegal products and have warned citizens to exercise caution when making purchases.

Jordan Customs Director General Major General Jalal Qudah announced that customs officers had seized 10 tons of expired and non-compliant tobacco and molasses, 60,000 packets of various sizes of e-cigarette liquid, and over 10,000 illegal e-cigarettes, according to the Jordan News Agency Petra, on November 26.

Jalal says that these items were found in makeshift workshops that do not meet basic public safety and health standards. The materials were mixed in unsafe environments, posing serious health risks, and did not meet food and drug safety standards. Many items were smuggled into the country.

He pointed out that the Customs Intelligence Bureau is actively collecting information on the sales and manufacturing locations of these illegal products, and he urged citizens to be cautious when purchasing such products.

Jalal also said recent inspections by the Intelligence Directorate showed a "troubling" increase in the number of illegal materials in the market, prompting them to launch the current operation to track and shut down illegal production and sales points.

Intelligence reports indicated that the number of factories producing harmful substances has increased, posing health and environmental safety risks.
